Celebrate Diwali with Atta

Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is the five-day "Festival of Lights" celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists around the world. It is one of the most important and joyous festivals of the year, symbolizing the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

Significance and Traditions

The central theme of Diwali is the triumph of good over evil, and this is represented by several different stories and traditions across different regions and religions:

Hinduism: The most common story is the return of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshmana to their kingdom in Ayodhya after a 14-year exile and defeating the demon king Ravana. The people of Ayodhya lit up the city with rows of lamps to welcome them back, a tradition that continues today. Other traditions honour Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Krishna, and other deities.

Jainism: For Jains, Diwali commemorates the final liberation (moksha) of Lord Mahavira, the last of the Jain Tirthankaras.

Sikhism: Sikhs celebrate Diwali as Bandi Chhor Divas, marking the day their sixth Guru, Hargobind, was released from prison.

Buddhism: Some Buddhists, particularly Newar Buddhists in Nepal, also celebrate Diwali by worshipping Lakshmi and other deities.
